Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How do I become a member?
Answer: You can contact Gaile Statkus, President at or Marj Rempel, Vice-President at , or any other member of the guild for information about joining. Our membership is restricted to 70 members and right now, we still have room. We have nobody on the Wait List. If you are interested in joining our guild, contact us and we will get in touch with you in a timely manner. You may attend our meetings (except Dec. and June ones) as a guest (the guest fee is $7.00).
Question: Do you allow guests?
Answer: Yes, we welcome guests to attend any meeting, except at our December and June meetings. The fee is $7.00.
Question: How much are membership dues?
Answer: Our fees are $35 per year and each member is also required to donate one hand made item that will go to one of our charities.
Question: Why is a hand made item part of the membership fee?
Answer: As part of our mandate as a registered charity, we are required to make a contribution to help support charitable organizations within our community. That being said, we feel it is necessary that all members make a commitment towards providing a hand made item as part of each individual’s contribution.
Question: Where and when do you meet?
Answer: We meet on the second Tuesday of each month (September to June) at the Pickering Village Senior's Centre, 29 Linton Ave, Ajax. Social time starts at 6:30 pm and our meeting starts at 7:00 pm. Our meetings usually last about 2 hours (see Programs for information on what to expect at a meeting).
Question: What kinds of things are done at your meetings?
Answer: Three or four times a year we have visiting guest speakers who inspire and instruct our members on new techniques and projects. We often give demonstrations to our members on new techniques and tools.
Question: Do you have workshops?
Answer: We offer sewing days, mini workshops, and full day workshops. Our Ketchup Days are on the first and third Wednesday of each month, from 9 to 4, at the Pickering Village Seniors' Centre, 29 Linton Ave, Ajax. Members use these days to work on their own projects or charity quilts, to help others, especially our beginners and to have members run mini-workshops.
Question: What is your main objective?
Answer: We have two main objectives.
To welcome and promote the art of quilting to any members of our community who are interested in sharing this art form.
To teach and develop quilting skills through our members and other qualified quilting instructors to produce quilted items to be donated to the many charitable organizations in our community and beyond.
Question: To what charitable organizations do you donate?
Answer: We donate on a regular basis to the Ajax-Pickering Hospital, the NICU and Long Term Care sections of the hospital, The Salvation Army, Herizon House, Community Care, Ballycliffe Lodge, Toronto General Hospital, Winbourne Longterm Care, Children's Aid, Rose of Durham, Meals on Wheels and Community Living. We have also donated to Project Linus, Quilts of Valour, The Children’s Wish Foundation, Sick Children’s Hospital and Toronto General Hospital.
Question: What makes your guild special?
Answer: The name of our guild says it all: Twisted Stitchers Quilt Guild. We are a fun-loving, friendly bunch of women, who like to laugh. More importantly we are a registered charity guild, which means our main purpose is to provide quilted items to those in need in our community.
